A long tradition of Trans-Tasman collaboration…
Joint research and development opportunities in the biotechnology sector have brought benefits to the industry in both Australia and New Zealand.
The signing of the Australia-New Zealand Biotech Alliance in 2004 has strengthened this close working relationship further.
New Zealand and Queensland
New Zealand and the state of Queensland have particularly built up a strong association. The signing of a formal Statement of Intent by both governments in April 2003 aims to develop a strategic alliance between the two in the biotechnology sector, where joint commercial benefit can be achieved for companies and research institutes in both regions.
During New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon Helen Clark’s visit to Brisbane in June 2007, discussions were held on how to further explore the collaborative opportunities between New Zealand and Queensland. A biotechnology roundtable meeting was convened, with a second meeting held at the AusBiotech 2007 national conference.
With the support of the New Zealand and Queensland governments, the Steering Group New Zealand and Queensland Biotechnology (NZAQ Biotech) has been formed to develop broad strategies and projects.
